LOTTE HARDEMAN

I am researching the idea of coming to a greater awareness of man’s relationship with the natural world and our inability to master the elements. Within my artistic practice the sublime has become a concept that might no longer exist on planet earth but has moved towards outer space and different realities.

For my work I search for uncontrollable processes and want to understand and create compositions derived from the exploration of processes that happen within nature by looking for the aesthetic quality of chemistry and natural sciences. I let go of the idea of a fixed image/end result and become more curious about the process that happens within this framework. By giving it a framework and getting to know the materials I can let the substance free to create. I work with processes of dissolution, transference, and transformation. Due to the unpredictable effects of time, temperature, humidity and chemical reactions, the results can be surprising and distorted. I’m satisfied when my fascination is visible.
